Forum Wissen Award 2025 for Astrid Eichhorn

25.11.2025

Prof. Dr Astrid Eichhorn, Professor of Theoretical Physics at Heidelberg University, has been awarded the 2025 Forum Wissen Award by the Forum Wissen Association. The prize honours researchers who have made exceptional contributions to science communication and innovative teaching and outreach concepts. The award ceremony took place on 13 November 2025.

The jury particularly highlighted Prof. Eichhorn’s commitment to inspiring young people to engage with science and to presenting an open and diverse image of research. A key element of this commitment is her role as co-initiator of the children’s and youth book project “Young Scientists”, developed within the framework of the Young Academy. The book presents personal stories and career paths of researchers from a wide range of disciplines, offering authentic insights into scientific life and helping to break down stereotypes – especially encouraging girls to pursue their own paths in science.

Beyond this project, Astrid Eichhorn has been actively involved in initiatives focusing on science communication, diversity in academia and the structural development of the research system during her time as a member of the Young Academy. Her work exemplifies a form of science that actively engages with society and promotes dialogue beyond the academic community.

For Heidelberg University’s Faculty of Physics, this award is a strong signal of how excellent research and dedicated outreach can go hand in hand – and how important it is to communicate complex scientific ideas in an accessible, relatable and inspiring way.

The Faculty of Physics warmly congratulates Prof. Dr Astrid Eichhorn on receiving the Forum Wissen Award 2025 and thanks her for her outstanding commitment to making science visible and tangible far beyond the boundaries of her discipline.
