Physics and the brain - can computers be completely different?

The Department of Physics and Astronomy invites the public to a lecture in the series around the 625 year celebrations of the University:

 

"Physics and the brain - can computers be completely different?"

 

A group of European scientists has been working for a number of years to contruct a system that incorporates important properties of neuronal switches directly onto silicon chips. Such a computer is termed "neuromorph" and has completely different properties such as the ability to learn and error tolerance, as well as having extremely low energy requirements.
