We would like to invite female students from high schools (last two years) to participate in the following event:
Within the Research Training Group HighRR, devoted to educate PhD students towards detector technology, we would like to offer hands-on courses addressed to female students at the end of the High School period (last two years). These courses will be supported by female PhD students within the Research Training Group. Our aim is to allow female students, who are in the process to decide which direction to follow after the high school, to experience the work in a physics laboratory and discussions with female PhD students about their experiences.
We propose a two-level approach:
First, introduction: Short seminars in preparation of the hand-on experiments.
Second, hands-on course: The high school students will be guided through several key experiments and experience the art of developing systems for the measurement of physical processes. We will stress how the use of suitable instruments is important to obtain precise results.
This course is scheduled on Saturday, 10th November 2018 at the Kirchhoff Institute for Physics of Heidelberg University, INF 227/HD. We will meet at 9 a.m. in front of the main door facing the square between KIP and Theoretikum. The course will last until about 5 p.m..
Lunch will be served at the institute.
Interested students should register by sending an email to Ms. Jessica Bender:

The deadline for registration is 27th October 2018. The registration is closed once the number of 25 students will be reached.
