Big science with small telescopes: galaxy morphologies
Andreas Koch-Hansen , ARI
Even small-aperture (amateur) telescopes are indespensible for astronomical
research. This way, deep exposures of galaxies in the local universe reveal
a complexity of substructures. Here I will show selected highlights from a
dedicated campaign, the HERON survey, that allowed us to investigate the
formation channels of galaxies with some peculiar morphologies such as boxy
halos.
